To transcribe a video, drop the MP4, MOV or WebM file into the box above. Your browser extracts the audio, Whisper large-v3-turbo writes the transcript, and the first 3 minutes are a free preview. The full timestamped transcript of a video up to 120 minutes, with TXT, DOCX, SRT and VTT downloads, costs $1.49 to $4.99 once, by length.

What you can transcribe

How video transcription works here

  1. Your browser decodes the video. Only the speech audio is kept, converted to 16 kHz mono and cut into short parts at quiet points.
  2. The audio is transcribed. Each part is transcribed with Whisper large-v3-turbo, which detects the language automatically.
  3. You get timed text. The transcript is shown with timestamps and can be downloaded as TXT, DOCX, or SRT and VTT subtitles.

Questions

Which video formats can I transcribe?

DropTranscribe transcribes the audio track of MP4 and MOV videos in all modern browsers, and WebM videos in Chrome, Edge and Firefox. That covers phone recordings, screen recordings, Zoom and Teams downloads and most exported edits. The video itself is never uploaded: your browser extracts the audio first. Videos can be up to 120 minutes and 500 MB. If a file won't open, convert it to MP4 or MP3 and try again.

How do I transcribe a Zoom or Teams meeting recording?

Download the recording file first. Zoom saves local recordings as an MP4 video plus an M4A audio-only file. Drop either file into DropTranscribe: the audio is extracted in your browser, the first 3 minutes are transcribed free, and an unlock ($2.99 for up to 60 minutes, $4.99 for up to 120) gives the full meeting with timestamps and TXT, DOCX, SRT and VTT downloads. Speakers are not labelled. Get participants' consent before recording and transcribing a meeting.
