How to generate SRT subtitles
- Drop the file. MP4 or MOV video, or MP3, M4A or WAV audio, up to 120 minutes. The audio is extracted in your browser.
- Check the preview. Read the first lines with their timestamps to judge the accuracy on your own recording.
- Download the .srt. Unlock the file (from $1.49, by length) and download the SRT, or the VTT for web players. Captions are kept to two short lines each so they fit on screen.
Where SRT files work
SRT is the most widely supported caption format. You can upload it to YouTube Studio, import it into Premiere Pro, CapCut, DaVinci Resolve or Final Cut Pro, or load it next to a video in VLC. Because it is plain text, you can fix names and technical terms in any text editor before you publish.
The captions are in the spoken language. After unlocking you can translate them into English (English only) and download English SRT or VTT with the same timings. Speakers are not labelled.
Uploading captions to YouTube? Follow the step-by-step guide: how to add SRT subtitles to a YouTube video. Need just the text? Use MP4 to text and download the TXT.

Questions
How do I make SRT subtitles from a video?
Run the video's speech through a transcription tool that exports SRT, the plain-text subtitle format with numbered lines and start and end timestamps. With DropTranscribe, drop the MP4 or MOV file, check the free preview of the first 3 minutes, then unlock the file (from $1.49, by length) and download the .srt file, or a .vtt file for web players. It loads as captions in YouTube, Premiere Pro, CapCut, DaVinci Resolve and VLC. Review names and technical terms before publishing.
What is an SRT file and how is it different from TXT?
An SRT (SubRip) file is a plain-text subtitle file. Each caption has a sequence number, a start and end time in the form 00:01:02,500 --> 00:01:05,000, and the words spoken in that span. Video players and editors use those timings to show captions in sync. A TXT transcript is just the text, convenient for notes, quotes or blog posts. DropTranscribe gives TXT, SRT, VTT and DOCX downloads for every unlocked file.
